It seems like our skin has its own life. Because we all know that throughout the year, during all four seasons, it behaves differently: during the spring it tends to be sensitive to wind, in the summer it needs better care because of the sun, the autumn and winter are known for drying out our skin. All this can seem problematic and frustrating, but there are some ways that will show you how to get rid of dry, flaky skin on face, that usually appears around nose, mouth, or eyes. So, what is really the best way to wash your face in order to deal with dry and flaky skin?
1) Precious Milk
Since the ancient times when Cleopatra used to bathe in milk, this white magic potion was not used only for drinking. Try it on your skin! It’s mild, has anti-inflammatory properties, and it removes dead cells from your face. You don’t need to soak yourself in milk, it will be enough to soak a soft washcloth in it, tap it gently on the face, and then to rinse it with lukewarm water. Of course, you can drink it along the way, if you simply can’t resist…
2) While You’re in The Kitchen
Another miracle-worker from the kitchen is: yogurt! You surely have it, and if you don’t, then go to the store and grab one from the shelf! Yogurt is known for its richness in lactic acid which can remove the bacteria that causes itchiness. Just apply fresh yogurt on the dry areas (usually around nose, mouth, or eyes), and leave it for approximately ten minutes. Wash it off, and feel the freshness of your skin!
3) The More Grease, The Better
Light and watery lotions won’t be of help if you have problems with dry skin. For the successful fight against flakiness, you need some thick cream, or heavy moisturizer. If you don’t want to spend much money, the most affordable for the purpose is petroleum jelly. Before you go to sleep, put a little jelly on your face, and in the morning the skin will be renewed and regenerated! 4) Oils Are Your Friends
Probably the most effective oil for eliminating dry skin is the coconut oil. It is already well known in the world of beauty and cosmetics, so don’t hesitate to try it. It’s as simple as this:
- Wash your face with lukewarm water.
- Dry it, and apply some coconut oil.
- After some time, wash it off (coconut oil is safe, so you can leave it for a couple of hours if you have the time; it’s up to you)
It’s important to wash your face before putting the oil, because the pores will open, and oil will be easily absorbed. And it’s good for the lips, too!
5) Honey Rules
Honey really rules, since it has all the properties that you need for dry skin treatment: it moisturizes perfectly, it’s full of various vitamins, it’s a natural antioxidant, and let’s not forget the gorgeous smell and taste! What more can we ask for? Therefore, on a daily basis, you can apply some honey on the face, and rinse it after fifteen or twenty minutes. This will completely hydrate your skin, and give it a healthy glow.
6) Avocado Masks? Why Not
Avocado belongs to a group of most appreciated fruits when it comes to beauty and skin care, mostly because of the fatty acids and vitamin A. And exactly this is the reason why you should try it for anti-dry effect. Prepare a simple mask and follow the process:
- Mash one avocado, until you get a pasty texture.
- Apply on face.
- Leave it for fifteen minutes.
- Wash with cold water.
You can always mix avocado and honey, for the complete touch of smoothness. But be careful, this mask should be used twice a week, not every day. No hurt in trying.
7) Olive Oil and Sugar: a Jackpot
Olive oil can also give your face-skin a proper care. Sugar is here to exfoliate, because that is what you should do: exfoliate as often as you can! Mix olive oil and sugar (in equal measure), and gently scrub your face using circular motions. Be extremely careful while doing this, and follow the reaction of your skin. It should feel like a soft and pleasant massage. After a couple of minutes, wash the excess oil, and apply some moisturizing cream.
8) Glycerin For The Extra Silky Feeling
Glycerin has so many benefits for the skin in general: it’s great support in fighting acne, it’s absolutely non-toxic, it can be used even as a sunscreen, it’s excellent for sensitive skin too. What are you waiting for? Apply glycerin on your face. It can sit for several hours, or overnight, and the results are visible right away. Or, add a few drops into your favorite face lotion, and enjoy the results!
9) Oatmeal Can Lock The Water
For maintaining the hydration, oatmeal is more than welcome. It successfully prevents water loss, and has high level of proteins. Its overall benefits are amazing for dry skin treatment. Here’s the mask that you could make easily, combining yogurt and honey with oatmeal:
- You need a tablespoon of each ingredient (yogurt, honey, oatmeal).
- Mix it all in a bowl.
- Apply, and leave it for fifteen minutes.
After you rinse it off with warm water, your skin will be soft, and silky, without little white skin flakes.
10) Warm Compress For the Skin Around Eyes
The easiest way to reduce the dryness and itchiness around the eyes, is to use warm (almost cold) compresses. You can do it several times per day. Make sure that you have clean washcloth, and that the water is pleasant for the eyes. Lightly place the compresses for ten minutes, and remove. It’s very important to know the cause of the dry skin on your face. Maybe it’s the weather; but it could also be the improper skin care treatment, or simply the lack of water in your body. However, there are certain things you could do, and certain things you should definitely avoid, to keep your skin nourished and beautiful:
- Start using lukewarm water when in shower; steamy showers will only bring damage.
- Don’t use the soap; soaps tend to overdry.
- Moisturizing and exfoliating should be your daily routine.
- Protect the skin from the sun (even your face!).
- Drink a lot of water; a lot.
- Use lotions that do not contain alcohol.
- Get a humidifier; it will hydrate your whole body, and improve your health in general.
